Dan and Shay Information
Dan and Shay are a musical duo composed of songwriters and vocalists Shay Mooney and Dan Smyers. Dan and Shay first formed in 2012 as a Country duo from Nashville, Tennessee. Before the pair formed, Shay was a solo artist and was represented by T-Pain’s Nappy Boy Entertainment, and Dan was a member of a group called Bonaventure. ‘Rascal Flatts’ was the first song that they wrote together after meeting in 2012. After the release of their first song, the duo received many offers from record labels, and finally, signed with Warner Nashville.
The debut single, "19 You + Me ", was officially released to country radio on October 14, 2013. The song earned a favorable critique from Taste of Country. The inaugural album, "Where It All Began," was officially published on April 1, 2014.
The first song, "From the Ground Up," on their second album, was launched on country radio platforms in February 2016. The debut single from the duo's self-titled third studio album, released on June 22, 2018, was "Tequila," which has since achieved its highest position on the US Billboard Hot 100, entering the top 40.
The collaborative song "10,000 Hours" was released on October 4, 2019; the song peaked at 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and afterward received the Grammy Award for Best Country Duo Performance. The fifth single from the album was released on July 18, 2022, titled "You". Dan and Shay debuted as featured artists on the track "That's Not How This Works" by renowned American singer Charlie Puth on March 31, 2023.
