Damien Robitaille Information
Damien Robitaille (June 1981) is a Canadian musician. He was born in Lafontaine, Ontario. When Robitaille was eight years old, he learned to play the piano. Later in childhood, he took up the trumpet, guitar, and violin. He started writing songs in English when he was fifteen. At the urging of his music teacher, Damien Robitaille released his debut CD and three original songs in French when he was just 18 years old.
At Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, where he majored in classical music, he formed the rock group The Mezameeze (a play on the French phrase "mes amis," which translates to "my friends"). The university music competition "Battle of the Bands" was won by the band performing Damien's French compositions. He was a finalist in the Franco-Ontarian competition Ontario Pop halfway through his undergraduate tenure. He won a scholarship to study at the "L'École Nationale de la Chanson de Granby" in Granby, Quebec, for a year.
Damien Robitaille's self-titled debut album was published in 2002. At the 2004 Festival de la chanson de Granby (Granby Song Festival) in Granby, Quebec, the young poet-musician Robitaille competed and placed as a finalist. Omniprésent was Damien Robitaille's new album, published in 2012. At the 2013 Gala des Prix Trille Or, he garnered eight further nominations for this new CD and his website.
