Dadi Freyr Information
Dadi Freyr Pétursson (June 30, 1992) is an Icelandic musician from Berlin, Germany. He goes by the mononyms Dad Freyr and Dadi. Freyr used to play the drums, piano, and bass when he was young. Together with his partner, Kristján Pálmi, he formed the band RetRoBot. His friends at the South Iceland Multicultural School, guitarist Gumundur Einar Vilbergsson and vocalist Gunnlaugur Bjarnason, eventually joined the band.
In June 2019, Freyr launched his debut album, & Co., an experimental pop song that echoes the French electronic band Daft Punk's signature '70s disco sound. Freyr performed "Think About Things" (also known as "Gagnamagni" in Icelandic) at the 2020 Söngvakeppnin. Freyr and his band, Gagnamagni, again played at Söngvakeppnin, this time as Freyr & Gagnamagni. After winning the prize at Söngvakeppnin 2020, they were slated to represent Iceland at the next Eurovision Song Contest.
The Icelandic representatives for the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest continued to be Dai and Gagnamagni, as was confirmed on October 23, 2020. The semi-final and final performances of "10 Years" included a pre-recorded performance from the second rehearsal.
They made it to the championship game but scored only 378 points, good for fourth place. Freyr sang a rendition of Atomic Kitten's "Whole Again" as an interval performance at the final Eurovision Song Contest 2023, hosted in Liverpool.
