Colorado Springs Philharmonic Information
The Colorado Springs Philharmonic is an eminent professional orchestra situated in Southern Colorado. Josep Caballé Domenech serves as the present music director. Seasonal offerings from the Colorado Springs, Colorado Philharmonic include classical and pop performances at the Pikes Peak Center. In March 2003, the Colorado Springs Symphony declared bankruptcy, leading to the formation of the Colorado Springs Philharmonic.
Five organizations—the Anschutz Foundation, El Paso County Enterprise Zone, the City of Colorado Springs, and El Pomar Foundation—made hosting four free summer symphony concerts in June and July 2013 feasible. Colorado Springs Together, an organization that provides aid to victims of wildfires, staged a concert to mark the passing of a year since the Waldo Canyon fire on June 26, 2013.
Donations to the Philharmonic are eligible for federal and state tax benefits because of the organization's 2009 Enterprise Zone designation. For example, the tax credits could lower the net cost of a $10,000 donation to $3,600. Businesses and nonprofits in Colorado can use the credits to attract and retain talent, invest in infrastructure, and upgrade their facilities.
