Cody, Wyoming's Fourth of July celebrations have included rodeos and parades since the turn of the century. Cody, Wyoming, has hosted the annual Stampede Rodeo since 1919, making it the longest-running rodeo in the world at over 90 years. In 2019, the Cody Stampede will celebrate its 103rd year, and the Cody Nite Rodeo will celebrate its 84th year of performances. Thanks to these two factors, Cody has been known as the "Rodeo Capital of the World" and is home to one of the nation's longest-running and most successful professional rodeos.
The Cody Stampede has been recognized as the "Best Large Outdoor Rodeo of the Year" by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association on two separate occasions (1998 and 1999), as well as one of the "Top 5" Large Outdoor Rodeos in 2020. As early as 2001, the Cody Night Rodeo was considered among the best little outdoor rodeos in the country. Cody has been proving all summer long that they are rodeo, and he does it every night.
