Coachella Valley Firebirds Information
The Coachella Valley Firebirds play home games at the Thousand Palms Ice Arena. They compete in the AHL as part of the Western Conference, Pacific Division. In the 2022–2023 American Hockey League season, the Firebirds debuted. The Seattle Kraken owns and runs the team as an affiliate. The team's home venue is Acrisure in Thousand Palms, in the Coachella Valley of Southern California.
AHL affiliate of Seattle franchise to move to Palm Springs, according to reports from June 26, 2019. The AHL Board of Governors approved the expansion team on September 30, 2019, and it is expected to begin play during the 2021-22 season. The franchise launch was delayed until the 2022–23 season due to issues with the arena being built in the Palm Springs area. In the meantime, for the 2021-22 season, Seattle was an affiliate of the Charlotte Checkers, sharing the team with the Florida Panthers.
The Coachella Valley Firebirds unveiled their team name, logos, and colors at a ceremony on the site of their future arena on November 5, 2021. After their first season in the league in 2022-23, the Firebirds placed second in the Pacific Division. They won the Western Conference and the automatic berth to the Calder Cup final, but the eventual champion Hershey Bears eliminated them in seven games.
