Producer and DJ Claptone hails from Germany. The golden masks he wears, reminiscent of plague doctors, conceal his identity and draw attention to him. Until people noticed that Claptone frequently played at three different locations simultaneously, they assumed he was just one guy. Then, the notion began circulating that three people were making up Claptone. Iconic venues such as Hï Ibiza (formerly Space), Pacha, and Tomorrowland have hosted Claptone's performances.
After describing Claptone as "one of the most visible characters in the global deep house scene" and his music as "crisply produced and effortlessly infectious" in 2015, Mixmag made the same assessment. He has worked with several independent musicians and songwriters. A long list of artists contributed vocals to Charmer, including Nathan Nicholson of Boxer Rebellion, Jay-Jay Johanson, JAW, and Peter Bjorn and John.
Mixmag states it "has become a Beatport bestseller and one of the biggest tunes of the year" (2015), referring to Claptone's remix of Gregory Porter's Liquid Spirit from the eponymous album. Claptone's two-disc set, "Claptone IMMORTAL," was performed in April 2016. Over the years, Claptone has performed the show on two distinct continents, with the Tomorrow Land character sounding very different from the Exchange LA version.
