The MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada is home to Cirque du Soleil's Kà show. Robert Lepage created and directed Kà, which premiered on February 3, 2005, after previews began on November 26, 2004. The first Cirque du Soleil production to feature a continuous plot was Kà. Kà, the show's title, is derived from an old Egyptian belief in the "Kà," a spiritual double of the body that follows each person from this life into the next.
The dance routines feature many acrobatic and martial arts elements, such as a wheel of death, bungees, aerial straps, swing poles, Chinese opera, Brazilian Capoeira, and the Wushu form of martial arts. Costumes worn by martial artists and members of the imperial court in Kà often drew inspiration from Asian visual imagery. Take the Twins' extravagant silk clothes, for example; Indian, Korean, and Japanese orientalists influenced them.
A band performs offstage in Kà to complement the onstage singing, acrobatics, and acting. Several musicians take the stage at different points throughout the concert to perform live in costume. Rochelle Collins (as a mezzo-soprano) and Lizzy Munson (as an alto) provide the vocals for Kà.
