Christian Sands Information
Christian Sands (May 22, 1989) is an American composer and jazz pianist born in New Haven, Connecticut. Music has always played an important role in his life; he began playing at an early age and took lessons when he was four. He remarked that he grew up with the piano in the house, in the classroom, and on stage.
Piano great Billy Taylor mentored young Sands and even let him close out one of his shows at the Kennedy Center. After that, Sands enrolled in music classes at the Manhattan School of Music. Under Bobby Sanabria's direction, the school's Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra released the 2009 album Kenya Revisited Live, which garnered a Latin Grammy nomination.
After finishing college, Sands has toured the world with Christian McBride's band, Inside Straight, a bassist. Sands joined the Steinway artist family in 2012. The 2014 Jazz Fellowship Awards were one of Sands' many accomplishments in American piano.
