China Forbes Information
China Forbes (April 29, 1970) is an American singer and songwriter from Cambridge, Massachusetts, and the daughter of Peggy (née Woodford) and Donald Cameron Forbes. She is the sister of Maya Forbes, a screenwriter and director and a cousin to indie-rock musician Ed Droste of Grizzly Bear and former U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry.
Forbes attended Phillips Exeter Academy and later studied visual arts at Harvard University. Forbes won the Jonathan Levy Prize for acting at Harvard. She also met Thomas Lauderdale at the university, who was a classically trained pianist. The two became friends and met regularly to play music. When Forbes graduated in 19992, she started working as an actress. For many years, she performed on Off-Broadway in New York City but later became a musician.
Forbes founded a band and recorded her solo album. She sang the song "Ordinary Girl" for the television series Clueless as well as "Que Sera Sera" for the movie In the Cut. Forbes moved to Portland in 1998 and began working full-time with the band. She also sang in Pink Martini. Later on, Forbes released her solo album Love Handle (November 1995) that was followed by '78 (Heinz2008). Forbes also got featured on Michael Feinstein's album The Sinatra Project and recorded two songs in French with Georges Moustaki for his album entitled Solitaire.
Some of her work albums in collaboration with Pink Martini are 2004 Hang on Little Tomato, 2009 Splendor in the Grass, 2010 Joy to the World, and 2011 A Retrospective.
