Chely Wright Information
Born Richell Rene Wright, on October 25, 1970, she is professionally known as Chely Wright. She is an American country music singer and activist from Kansas City. Wright grew up in Wellsville, Kansas, and since the age of four, she wanted to be a country music performer as per her autobiography, Like Me. At the age of eight, Wright realized that she was gay. She began taking lessons as a young child, and at the age of 11, she began professional singing appearances.
Prior to her senior year of high school, she worked as a performing musician at the Ozark Jubilee. It was a long-running country music show in Branson, Missouri. Right after her high school, she landed a position in a musical production at Opryland USA in 1989. Wright released her first album in 1994 on the Polydor label entitled Woman in the Moon.
Though her first two albums were unsuccessful, her first top twenty country hit came in 1997, entitled "Shut Up and Drive" from her third album, Let Me In. Some of her other studio albums include Single White Female, The Metropolitan Hotel, Lifted Off the Ground, Never Love You Enough, and I Am the Rain.
2003: 20th Century Masters – The Millennium Collection: The Best of Chely Wright, 2007: The Definitive Collection, and 2008: The Ultimate Collection was the three compilation albums by Wright. She also released five extended plays.
Wright won an Academy of Country Music award 1995, MENC 2001, CMT Flameworthy Award, People Magazine, International Bluegrass Music Association, American Legion Auxiliary, and many more.
