Charles Richard-Hamelin Information
Charles Richard-Hamelin (born July 17, 1989, in Joliette, Quebec) is a Canadian concert pianist. Richard-Hamelin was born in Lanaudière, Quebec, Canada, and began piano lessons with his father when he was six years old. He graduated from McGill University with a bachelor's degree in 2011. In 2013, Richard-Hamelin received his master's degree from Yale School of Music.
In 2013, Richard-Hamelin received his master's degree from Yale School of Music. He graduated from McGill University with a bachelor's degree in 2011. He competed in the XVII International Chopin Piano Competition (Warsaw, 2015), winning the silver medal and the Krystian Zimerman Prize for the most satisfactory Sonata performance. He also took home the highest money from the competition.
Richard-Hamelin went on to perform Chopin's works around Canada after winning the competition. The Fryderyk Chopin Institute ultimately released a two-disc CD of his competition audition performances.
Richard-Hamelin and Andrew Wan's Beethoven: Violin Sonatas Nos. 6, 7 & 8 was released in 2018 and was nominated for a Juno Award for Classical Album of the Year in 2019. In February 2019, he performed a solo concert at Toronto's Koerner Hall, broadcast on CBC Radio 2.
