Chaka Khan Information
Yvette Marie Stevens (March 23, 1953), best known as Chaka Khan, is an American vocalist. She began her career in the early 1970s as the main singer of the funk band Rufus, and her career has continued for almost fifty years, earning her the title of "Queen of Funk." While she was a member of the band, she contributed to the recordings of several popular songs, including "Ain't Nobody," "Sweet Thing," "Do You Love What You Feel," and many more.
She had a number one R&B single with "I'm Every Woman" from her first solo album; Whitney Houston covered the song for her pop album. Before being the first R&B artist to have a crossover hit with a rapper, Khan had another R&B chart breakthrough with "What Cha' Gonna Do for Me" in 1984. The song was Prince's "I Feel for You." However, she had three gold singles and three gold albums overall during her solo career.
Khan and vocalist Stephanie Mills competed in a Verzuz fight in November 2021, performing songs from each artist's discographies. Khan dropped her new single, "Woman Like Me," on July 29, 2022, after announcing it in July of that year. Among Rolling Stone's 200 Greatest Singers of All Time, Khan was rated 29th in 2023.
