Casting Crowns Information
In 1999, Mark Hall, a youth pastor at the First Baptist Church of Downtown Daytona Beach in Florida, founded Casting Crowns. It is a contemporary Christian and Christian rock band. Hall also acts as the band's lead vocalist. Later, the new band relocated to Stockbridge, Georgia, where additional people joined. Some of the current band members are Juan DeVevo, Josh Mix, Melodee DeVevo, Megan Garrett, Jack Williams, and John Michael Hall.
Hall refers to their music as a "ministry of discipleship" in line with The Great Commission. A few band members currently serve as ministers at McDonough, Georgia's Eagle's Landing First Baptist Church. The group has received Dove and Grammy Awards.
Casting Crowns got its start as a student worship group. It is one of the few American bands ever to receive an invitation to North Korea. They performed with the Annie Moses Band at the Pyongyang Spring Friendship Arts Festival 2009. Casting Crowns performed Mike Huckabee's political program Huckabee on August 30, 2009.
Some of their recent hit discographies include The Very Next Thing (2016), Only Jesus (2018), and Healer (2022). The band's former drummer, Andy Williams, passed away on July 9, 2021, in a motorbike accident.
In 2007, Casting Crowns received the most airplay on Christian radio, per the Radio & Records Weekly charts. Casting Crowns earned the Dove Award for Artist of the Year in April 2010.
