Capital District Mayors Cup Hockey Information
The Brown Bears and the Providence Friars are the two men's ice hockey programs in Providence, Rhode Island, and each year they compete against one another in a challenge series known as the Mayor's Cup.
Due to their proximity, the two teams have played against one another every year since their respective programs existed. The first meeting between the two teams was on March 21, 1927, with Brown coming out on top, 4-1.
During the 1985-1986 season, the first Mayor's Cup was played. On January 3, 2018, the two teams met for the 100th time in their long competition history. For the next 2020-21 season, Providence holds a 53-46-3 series advantage. Two games were played in the 2014–2015 and 2015–2016 seasons.
