Canadian Country Music Association Information
The Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA), formerly known as the Academy of Country Music Entertainment, was created in 1976 to organize, promote, and develop the Canadian country music business. On June 3, 1973, twelve individuals—including performers, promoters, and radio hosts—met in Toronto, Ontario's The Horseshoe Tavern, to establish the association's board of directors and promote Canadian material.
Members of the group included Boot Records president Jury Krytiuk, promoter Bod Dalton, Sean Eyre, DJ Lindsay, Harold Moon (a radio personality for BMI Records), Barry Haugen (RCA Records), Vic Folliott (Brantford Radio), Mary Butterill (the Composers, Authors and Publishers Association of Canada), musician Ben Kerr (and promoter), and Brent Williams (a famous country and bluegrass performer).
Every year, the CCMA organizes Country Music Week. On Sunday night, it all comes to a head with the CCMA Awards, presented by a new Canadian city every year. One part of Country Music Week is the festival, which has events like the Fan Fest, Legends Show, and Songwriters Series. The other part is the CCMA Awards show, followed by an industry conference with more workshops, seminars, networking opportunities, and ceremonies.
