Caleb Johnson Information
Caleb Perry Johnson (April 23, 1991) is an American singer. He was born in Asheville, North Carolina, and attended Clyde A. Erwin High School in Asheville. He started taking interest in singing at the age of 17 when Josh Sawyer had a band in his high school, and Josh asked him to be the lead singer. The very first song Johnson performed for the band in front of the public was during his high school time. It was “Fortunate Son” by Creedence Clearwater Revival. He also took part in the talent show and represented a band called Gorgon.
Johnson still considers Chris Cornell as one of the biggest musical influences throughout his life. His favorite band is Rush. While he was performing as a lead vocalist in the band Elijah Hooker, the band released its self-titled debut album in June 2013. “Happiest Man” was a lead track of the album. Johnson had auditioned for American Idol three times in four years. In 2011, during the tenth season, he auditioned for the first time. In all three times, he could not get a chance to make it through the end and win the competition.
Eventually, in 2014, Johnson auditioned once again for the American Idol, and this time he made it to the top 20. He received votes by America that enabled him to reach the top five male contestants and earned a spot in the top 13 for that season. So far, Johnson has released one solo album entitled “Testify” (August 12, 2014) as well as a few singles including As Long As You Love Me, Only One, Fighting Gravity, Holding One, and Hanging with the Band.
