Boys Don’t Cry is a British pop/rock band based in London and active since 1983. The group’s current lineup consists of Nick Richards, Jesse Hunter, David Rehmann, and Arthur Medina. The band is best known for one of its hit single “I Wanna Be a Cowboy.” The single peaked in 1986 at number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Boys Don’t Cry was formed by lead keyboardist/vocalist Nick Richards. He had recently purchased Maison Rouge Recording Studios in London. The group released its debut EP entitled “Don’t Talk to Strangers” with the early version. The album was released on an independent UK label called Legacy Records. The band's lineup fluctuated for many years, although Paul Oakenfold, a talent scout for Profile Records, discovered Boys Don’t Cry. Profile Records then signed the group for US Market.
Boys Don’t Cry released two more full-length studio albums later on: a self-titled debut album in 1986, including the hit single “I Wanna Be a Cowboy” and another album entitled “Who the Am Dam Do You Think We Am.” The hit-single was even featured in the night club scene of the film “The Last Boy Scout.”
Boys Don’t Cry worked with different record labels over time, such as Legacy Records, Profile Records, Mercury Records, and Intercord Tontrager GmBH. In 2014, the band released its third album entitled “Hear It Is!.”
