Boy George Information
George Alan O'Dowd (June 14, 1961), professionally known by his stage name, Boy George, is a prominent figure in the English music industry. He was born in Barnehurst, Kent. George is best known as the main vocalist of the new wave band Culture Club. In 1987, he launched his solo career.
In 1981, he partnered with Roy Hay, Mikey Craig, and Jon Moss to establish the band Culture Club. Over 10 million copies of the band's second album, Color by Numbers (1983), were sold worldwide. Singles like "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me" and "Time (Clock of the Heart)" became huge hits for them.
George has released 48 singles, five compilation albums, and nine studio albums as a solo artist. He sang on the 1984 charity single "Do They Know It's Christmas?" and was the last performer to lay down his lines. George's music embraces several styles, from pop and new wave to soul and soft rock to disco and reggae.
As a solo artist and a member of the Culture Club, he has won several honors. In a BBC survey of the 100 Greatest Britons, he placed 46th in 2002. The British Academy of Songwriters, Composers, and Authors honored Boy George with the 2015 Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Services to British Music. The 22nd season of the UK version of "I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!" aired in November 2022, and he was a participant that year.
