Blue Highway Information
Blue Highway is a contemporary bluegrass band that originated from Kingsport, Tennessee, and was founded in 1994. The group's music is defined as country, southern gospel, folk, Americana, and bluegrass. The band was organized by Tim Stafford, who helped the Dusty Miller band formation (the 1990 SPBGMA International Bluegrass Band champion) and was a member of Alison Krauss & Union Station. The Blue Highway's current lineup includes Jason Burleson, Shawn Lane, Tim Stafford, Wayne Taylor, and Gary Hultman.
Some of the Blue Highway's previous members are Rob Ickes, Tom Adams, Gaven Largent, and Justin Moses. The band's first project was It's a Long, Long Road, which spent nearly six months at the top of the Bluegrass Unlimited charts. The album ultimately won the IBMA's Album of the Year Award in 1996.
Blue Highway won many International Bluegrass Music Association Awards for Song of the Year, Vocal Group of the Year, Gospel Recording of the Year (1997, 2004), Album of the Year (1996, 2006), Songwriter of the Year (2014, 2017), and Dobro Player of the Year several times over the years. The band also won the 2004 Dove Award and 5 Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America Awards. Blue Highway has been nominated for Grammy Awards in 2004, 2005, and 2016.
