Billy Montana (September 28, 1959) is an American country music singer and songwriter. He was born in Voorheesville, New York. Montana started his career by forming a country music group with his brother, Kyle, Booby Kendall, Dave Flint, and Doug Bernhard. They named it Billy Montana & the Long Shots. The group signed its first record deal with Warner Bros. Record. Three singles by the band were charted on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles and Tracks chart. The group later disbanded, and Montana moved to Nashville in 1989 to pursue his songwriting dream.
Magnatone Record signed Billy Montana to a solo record deal in 1994. In April 1995, he released his debut album entitled “No Yesterday.” The same year, Montana also signed a songwriting deal with Moraine Music. In 1995, Jo Dee Messina released “Bring On the Rain” of Montana, which topped Billboard’s Hot Country Singles & Tracks in March 2002. The single was also nominated for a Grammy Award.
Since then, Montana has written many number one songs for Sara Evans and Garth Brooks. His single “More Than a Memory” reached number 1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart in September 2007. Montana has written countless singles throughout his career. Many of them have been recorded by such notable artists, including Kenny Rogers, Sister Hazel, Jon Pardi, Martina McBride, Tim McGraw, Jo Dee Messina, Sara Evans, Garth Brooks, and Lee Brice. His notable singles include “Didn’t Have You” and “Rain Through the Roof.”
