William Wendell Gilman III is a singer from Westerly, Rhode Island, raised in Hope Valley, Rhode Island, in Richmond. He plays country and pop. Before Gilman was in school, he began singing and delivered his first public performance at seven, and at nine, he was discovered by Ray Benson, of Asleep at the Wheel, who helped Gilman record demos. Gilman was eventually signed to Epic Records Nashville in 2000.
"One Voice" was the debut single by Gilman that hit the top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song peaked at number 38 and became a top 20 hit on Billboard Hot Country Songs 2000. Gilman became the youngest artist ever to hit the top 40 on the country chart at 11 years old. One Voice became certified double platinum in the United States, including songs like "Oklahoma" and "There's a Hero."
Gilman's other notable albums include Classic Christmas, Dare to Dream, Music Through Heartsongs, Everything and More, and Billy Gilman. Gilman auditioned for the US edition of The Voice in 2016 and stunned all the four judges with his performance.
Gilman made an appearance on the tribute album, Country Goes Raffi, in 2000, where he performed the Raffi song "Baby Beluga." In the same year, he appeared on a TV special for Twas the Night Before Christmas. Gilman was seen at Michael Jackson: 30th Anniversary Celebration and was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award and won the 2001 American Music Award.
