Billy Don Burns Information
Billy Don Burns is an American singer and songwriter who was born in Arkansas. In 1970, he moved to Palm Desert, California, followed by serving the United States Army. He joined a publishing company to record a few songs. In 1972, he moved to Nashville to pursue his music career and got help from Lynn Owsley, who moved Burns into a musician’s boarding house in Nashville. Owsley would often sneak Burns into the Grand Ole Opry. Burns later signed a record deal with Wilderness Music in 1972.
Burns performed as Hank Williams at Opryland USA in 1973. He had recorded two songs there as a singer and songwriter, including “I Always Come Back To Loving You” by Mel Tillis and “Be Alright in Arkansas” by Connie Smith.
Burns formed a group in 1975 along with Jimmy Getzen named the Travis Brothers. The group didn’t last long, becoming a short-lived project. Burns opened for Boots Randolph and Ronnie Prophet and performed around different Nashville clubs at the same time. In the early 1980s, he embarked on multiple tours across North America.
Billy Don Burns released several notable studio albums in his career, including Desperate Men, Train Called Lonesome (2002), Heroes, Friends & Other Troubled Souls (2004), Graveyard in Montgomery (2016), Nights When I’m Sober (2012), and The Country Blues (2020).
