Big Wreck Information
Big Wreck is a Canadian-American rock band. The current lineup consists of Sekou Lumumba (drums), Chris Caddell (backing vocals and rhythm guitar), Dave McMillan (backing vocals and bass guitar), and Ian Thornley (keyboards, lead vocals, and lead guitar). Ian Thornley and Brian Doherty founded the band in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1994. Hard rock, alternative rock, and post-grunge are the genres covered by the band. David Henning and Forrest Williams completed the lineup.
Big Wreck split up in 2003, and Ian Thornley formed his band, Thornley, to pursue a solo career. Ian Thornley and Brian Doherty reunited for a cross-Canada tour in 2010, performing songs from Big Wreck and Thornley. Albatross, the band's third studio album, was released in 2012 under Big Wreck. Since then, the band has released three albums: Ghosts (2014), Grace Street (2017), and ...But For the Sun (2017).
Big Wreck was signed to Atlantic Records and released their debut album In Loving Memory Of... in 1997 after a few years of performing in the Boston region and Toronto. In early 1998, their track "The Oaf (My Luck Is Wasted)" entered the Billboard Mainstream Rock Chart's top ten. The band had even more commercial success in Canada, with four top 40 singles on the Canadian Singles Chart.
To promote their albums, Big Wreck embarked on a 17-city tour. In October, the band performed a special event in Toronto's Roy Thomson Hall, accompanied by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the Uzume Taiko Ensemble of drummers, guitarist Eric Johnson, Paul Langlois and Robby Baker of The Tragically Hip.
