Big Band Blast Information
The Big Band Blast is an event in the form of a conference put on by musicians for musicians. Blast was founded in 2013 by John Morrison, a drummer and big band leader, and big band vocalist Jacki Cooper. Big Band Blast is leaving our 10-year home of Port Macquarie and ushering in a new era in 2023. On the weekend of May 26–28, we'll be relocating to Bathurst. Big Band Blast is a conference gathering that welcomes big bands of all skill levels from high schools, colleges, and community groups across Australia. We'll have a welcome performance with big bands and our guest clinicians on Friday night to kick off the weekend.
This Saturday, bands will "strut their stuff" in a short set and receive comments from an experienced big band clinician in one of four workshop rooms that will rotate throughout the day. John Morrison will be auditioning potential Big Band Blast Superband members during his Saturday class. The chosen musicians will begin their day on Sunday with a Superband rehearsal. The next step is a series of master workshops for the horns, strings, vocals, and drums.
