Ben Nichols Information
Ben Nichols, a musician from Memphis who also writes songs and plays guitar, serves as the frontman for the alternative country band Lucero. Late in the 1990s, Lucero was created, and the band has published around six albums since 2001. Each album has garnered accolades for the group's gritty, rootsy, and practically punk approach to country rock and for Nichols' smoky, emotionally charged vocal style.
Nichols began recording more acoustic-based material during breaks from Lucero, and in 2009, Liberty & Lament Records released an EP under Nichols' name that featured a stripped-down trio consisting of Nichols on acoustic guitar, Rick Steff (Cat Power) on accordion and piano, and Todd Beene (Glossary) on pedal steel and electric guitar. The seven songs on the EP, which has the working title The Last Pale Light in the West, are all inspired by various characters and circumstances that appear in the book Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy.
