Bad Bad Hats Information
Bad Bad Hats is a Minneapolis, Minnesota-based indie-pop band. Rolling Stone Magazine gave the band high marks, and they performed at the South by Southwest Music Festival (SXSW). Margaret Glaspy, Hippo Campus, Third Eye Blind, The Front Bottoms, and others toured with the band. Kerry Alexander, Chris Hoge, and Connor Davison are members of the Bad Bad Hats band. Their sound has been described as indie, pop-punk, folk, and classic pop, with "90s rock simplicity and pop-punk playfulness" as inspirations. Alexander's lyrics are accessible, honest, nuanced, unexpected, and powerful.
When Kerry Alexander and Chris Hoge were students at Macalester College in St. Paul, they founded Bad Bad Hats. On Myspace, they had been listening to one other's songs. The band used to switch between an acoustic and revved-up, garage-leaning rock in the early days. The group started by publishing lo-fi demos on Bandcamp. Kazoo solos, rewritten Shania Twain lines, and the indie-pop hit Super America were among them. It Hurts, their debut EP, was released in 2013.
Afternoon Records released Bad Bad Hats' debut album, a Psychic Reader, in 2015. Psychic Reader was well-received, and it led to more high-profile opening slots. Afternoon Records released Bad Bad Hats' second full-length album, Lightning Round, in 2018. Lightning Round has the same combination of indie-pop, folk, and rock as Psychic Reader, but it's more sophisticated and polished.
