The Shoreline Amphitheatre in Northern California is the annual Audiotistic Music Festival site. Audiotistic is well-known for its eclectic musical selection, including rap, hip-hop, and electronic styles like drum & bass and dubstep. Southern California, USA, played host from 1997 to 2003 and again from 2009 to 2011, with previous events taking place in the National Orange Show Events Center in San Bernardino, the L.A. Sports Arena, and the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center, among others. On July 15, 2017, the festival returned to the Bay Area and included not one but two main stages. Adding a new day to the festival in 2018 would be a natural next step in its development.
The festival had 15,000 attendees in 2001 and 35,000 in 2002, both years held at the National Orange Show Events Center. Authorities reported no disturbances, and the audience was unusually well-behaved, despite its massive size. In 2010, an estimated 25,000 people attended the festival. Even though just 19,000 people attended the festival in 2011, its organizers considered it a success. In addition to its musical roster, Audiotistic 2002 attempted to connect with the Los Angeles skateboard scene by setting up a temporary skate park within the Orange Center's pavilion.
