Asleep at the Wheel Information
Asleep at the Wheel is an American country music band. The current lineup comprises Ray Benson, Jason Baczynski, Katie Shore, Dennis Ludiker, Connor Forsyth, Josh Hoag, Flavio Pasquetto, and Joey Colarusso. Asleep at the Wheel's 1974 self-titled sophomore album featured the band's first country charting single, a rendition of "Choo Choo Ch'Boogie" by Louis Jordan. "The Letter That Johnny Walker Read" was a top-ten Country hit released the following year on the album Texas Gold.
Tragically, the White House was supposed to host their performance on September 11, 2001. Live at Billy Bob's Texas came out in 2003, and they released two more albums: Reinventing the Wheel, which featured a collaboration with The Blind Boys of Alabama, and Kings of Texas Swing, a two-disc set. The former was an entirely new set of songs. Their 2007 holiday CD Santa Loves to Boogie was their second season release.
In 2007, Asleep at the Wheel took home six Austin Music Awards, including several for Benson's songwriting, the band's country sound, Benson's record production, the band's male vocals, and McQueen's acoustic guitar playing.
