Amy Helm Information
Amy Helm (December 3, 1970) is an American singer and songwriter born in Woodstock, New York. Helm attended Trinity High School, where she studied jazz with Dr. Aaron Bell. She also took part in bands as a singer at the same time and played in clubs and bars around New York City. Helm joined her father’s group, “The Barn Burners,” in 1999. Soon they toured the country and played traditional blues music.
Additionally, Helm has been a member of the alt-country ensemble Ollabelle. She released her solo debut album “Didn’t It Rain” in July 2015. Her second release was “This Too Shall Light,” which was released in September 2018 on Yep Roc Records and produced by Joe Henry in Los Angeles
Amy Helm featured her father, Levon Helm, in her first studio album, which happened to be her father’s last recorded drum performance. “Didn’t It Rain” also features members of the Midnight Ramble Band as well as Amy’s touring band. Her second album, “This Too Shall Light,” featured different musicians such as Jay Bellerose, Jen Condos, Tyler Chester, and Doyle Bramhall II. The album’s title track was premiered on Rolling Stone Country. She also has extensive credits as a background whistler and vocalist on records by artists such as Rosanne Cash, Rich Robinson, William Bell, Linda Thompson, Mercury Rev, and Steely Dan.
Helm has appeared in a variety of discography by different artists, including Kamakiriad (Donald Fagen), Deserter’s Songs (Mercury Rev), Jubilation (The Band), The Against Nature (Steely Dan), and countless others.
