This wonderful musical was written by José Cruz González born on March 19, 1957. His parents were migrant laborers. The University of California, San Diego, awarded him a Bachelor of Arts in US History and Chicano Studies with a minor in Theatre. Arizona State University in Tempe awarded him a Master of Arts in Theatre, and the University of California, Irvine, awarded him a Master of Fine Arts in directing.
González, raised on the central coast of California, was inspired to write by nature and his grandparents' tales. His plays frequently highlight communities of color, such as The Highest Heaven, Dialogues/Diálogos, and September Shoes. González is a California State University, Los Angeles professor and has written for the Emmy-nominated children's television program The PAZ Show.
