Amber Cruz's parents are of Dominican and Mexican descent. She was 5 when she first moved to the Dominican Republic and 7 when she finally settled in New Jersey. Her father was deported to Mexico when she was little, and she didn't get to see him again until she was 18 years old in 2019. She also made first contact with her younger sibling.
Llegaron Las Flores is a documentary about being separated from and reunited with relatives. The 2019 New York event "Selena For Sanctuary" she headlined generated money for immigrant rights advocacy groups and continues to advocate for their cause. A week after the premiere of the documentary, ICE stated that they would be conducting raids in several major cities.
At age 5, she began her singing career by uploading cover versions of songs to YouTube. She trained herself to play the piano, guitar, and ukulele and utilized YouTube videos to learn how to sing. She left her junior year of high school early to pursue a career in music in Los Angeles. Her 2019 EP, Dreaming Lucid, was followed by the full-length album Garden of Lucid in 2020.
