Alex Boye (August 16, 1970) is a British-American actor, dancer, and singer. He was born in London, England. Growing up, he was influenced by the music of black American performers, including Stevie Wonder, Kool and the Gang, James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Nat King Cole, Jackie Wilson, and Otis Redding. Boyé was introduced to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by a manager while he was 16 and working at a McDonald's in London. His baptism followed shortly after. In Bristol, England, where he was laboring as a missionary for the Church, Boyé had his first public performance.
Boyé became a backup dancer after serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and he did so for artists like George Michael. He fronted the European boy band Awesome, which he co-founded in 1995. Until 1996, when they won a singing competition on London's major radio station, Capital Radio, Awesome only played at tiny venues like local dances.
As a result, Awesome inked a five-album deal with Universal Records Europe. The first three singles from Awesome's debut album, Rumors, all peaked in the top ten in various European countries. They did show with Bryan Adams, George Michael, Simon & Garfunkel, MC Hammer, and many more; their CDs sold half a million copies. Boyé, however, did not enjoy the nomadic existence of a musician.
