Alejandro Escovedo Information
Alejandro Escovedo (January 10, 1951) from San Antonio, Texas, is a Mexican-American rock singer, songwriter, rock musician. He was born in San Antonio, Texas. Escovedo began his career with a first-wave punk rock group called the Nuns. The group consisted of Jeff Olener and Jennifer Miro in San Francisco, California.
Escovedo collaborated with the band Whiskeytown and Ryan Adams in 1997. The collaboration was mainly for the recording sessions for their album entitled “Strangers Almanac.” He was named Artist of the Decade in 1998 in No Depression magazine. Escovedo also involved himself in a side project that he was running to represent his hard-rocking tastes. He played in a tribute album to Skip Spence, who was a co-founder of Moby Grape and was caught critically by cancer.
Escovedo’s song “Castanets” was confirmed to be added on the iPod playlist of President George W. Bush in 2005. In 1992, he released his debut solo album entitled “Gravity” and the next collection “Thirteen Years” in 1994. On June 24, 2008, he released another album, “Real Animal,” Tony Visconti produced that. Chuck Prophet co-wrote all of the songs for Real Animal.
Alejandro Escovedo was also invited to contribute to a tribute album that was being recorded in honor of the late Doug Sahm. He has released his projects on several big labels, including Columbia Records, Vanguard Records, Birdman, Watermelon, Yep Roc, Bloodshot, and Rykodisc. His all-time notable released studio albums include The End/Losing Your Touch (1994), With These Hands (1996), More Miles Than Money: Live 1994-1996 (1998), along with several others.
