Airbourne Information
Airbourne is an Australian hard rock band. The group's current lineup consists of Jarrad Morrice, Justin Street, Ryan O'Keeffe, and Joel O'Keeffe. Airbourne's first lineup had the three members and Luke McKenzie, or "Macca," on bass. While both were employed at the Hotel Warrnambool, Joel was introduced to David Roads (born c. 1983). They both brought guitars to work and spent breaks playing and chatting about music. They recruited Roads to play rhythm guitar for them, and they rehearsed at the O'Keeffes' house.
Warrnambool City Council and Arts Victoria produced a compilation CD titled Hard Wired: Youth Compilation Album in November 2002. Both "Rock 'n' Roll" and "Give It All You've Got" by Airborne were recorded earlier this year in Motherlode Studios, Warrnambool. Students in the area were given free copies of the CD, and an additional 300 were made available "to help further the careers of the eight bands... get them airplay and gigs outside Warrnambool."
Early in 2003, bassist Adam Jacobson joined the band, and they quickly became regulars at the nearby Criterion Hotel. The foursome of Jacobson, the O'Keeffe brothers, and Roads won Push-On, a statewide band competition, in Melbourne that March. Australian rock bands like AC/DC, the Angels, Billy Thorpe, and Rose Tattoo impacted their early sound.
