Academy of Country Music Honors Information
The Academy of Country Music Awards, usually the ACM Awards, were originally presented in 1966 to recognize the industry's achievements from the previous year. It was the first country music awards program run by a big company. First fashioned in 1968, the Academy's "Hat" prize was First shown on ABC in 1972, the awards The Academy produced the show in 1979 in association with Dick Clark Productions.
The program moved to NBC in 1979 under their direction; subsequently, it moved to CBS in 1998 and Amazon Prime Video in 2022. Originally designed by the New York City company Society Awards, the Academy chose a sleek, contemporary "hat" award in 2003. Becoming the first broadcast awards event to do so, the company instituted online awards voting for its professional members in 2004.
For eight years, until 2016, Entertainer of the Year was a fan-voted award until the ACM eliminated Internet voting for it and the three new artist categories. On May 16, 2024, the 59th ACM Awards were held at the Ford Center at the Star in Frisco, Texas.
