Formerly known as Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center, the venue was renamed on August 22, 2006, to James Brown Arena in honor of musician “James Brown.” James Brown Arena has a seating capacity of approximately 9,167, along with a separate capacity of 6,557 for hockey and 7,255 for basketball. It opened to the general public on January 24, 1980. The construction cost of the James Brown Arena is said to be $11 million with further renovations in 2018, costing around $559 million. It is owned by Augusta/Richmond Country Coliseum Authority while managed and operated by Global Spectrum. James Brown Arena used to be the former home to ECHL’s Augusta Lynx from 1998-2008, American Indoor Football’s Augusta Colts from.2006-2008, and Augusta RiverHawks from 2010-2013.
