The venue is under the ownership of the Erie County Convention Center Authority and is operated by the same. It serves as a current home to the Erie BayHawks of the NBA G League and the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League.
The architecture of the arena is designed by Heidt, Evans & Salata while the renovation architecture was designed by Sink Combs Dethlefs. The venue is named in honor of the Erie Insurance Group (having the naming rights). It was opened to the public on June 7, 1983, with a construction cost of $9.3 million. The venue is popular for its conventional food offers, including pizza, corn dogs, Greek nachos, hot dogs, and much more.
