West Side Story Information
In West Side Story, Jerome Robbins, Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim, and Arthur Laurents collaborated on the musical. Based on William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, the drama occurs in Manhattan's multicultural, blue-collar Upper West Side in the mid-1950s. The musical follows the Jets and Sharks, two ethnically diverse teenage street gangs competing.
After previews on December 10, 2019, West Side Story debuted at the Broadway Theatre on February 20, 2020. It was produced by Scott Rudin and directed by Ivo van Hove, with choreography by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker. The Curve Theatre performance starred Jamie Muscato as Tony and Adriana Ivelisse as Maria from November 23, 2019, to January 11, 2020.
The IHI Stage Around Tokyo hosted a Japanese performance from November 2019 until January 2020. The Chungmu Art Center in Seoul will host a South Korean performance from November 2022 to February 2023. Jung Taekwoon plays Riff, Lee Jisoo, and Han Jae-ah as Maria, Kim Junsu, Go Eunsung, and Park Kanghyun as Tony.
