Vir Das (May 31, 1979) is an Indian comedian, actor, and musician born in Dehradun, Uttar Pradesh, India. Das began his career in stand-up comedy before making the transition to Hindi cinema, where he has starred in films such as Badmaash Company (2010), Delhi Belly (2011), and Go Goa Gone (2013). His 2017 Netflix show, Abroad Understanding, included his music.
Around 35 plays, 100 stand-up comedy gigs, 18 films, 8 TV series, and six comedy specials have included Das. Femina, Maxim, Exotica, DNA, and Tehelka have published comic pieces.
He first appeared on American television in 2019 on the Whiskey Cavalier series. With his Netflix comedy special Vir Das: Landing, he won Best Comedy Series in 2023 from the International Emmys.
Destination Unknown, Das's travel-cum-comedy program from 2019, has several famous people and stand-up comedians discussing the Indian perspective on humor.
"The Magic Motor Inn" was an episode of Fresh Off the Boat in which he co-starred with Preity Zinta. In the role, he portrays the head of an Indian household. In the official spin-off of the same program, Das's onscreen family will play a significant story point.
