The Big Muddy Dance Company Information
The Big Muddy Dance Company is a St. Louis-based repertory dance company founded in 2010. The company was created by former dancer Paula David, along with Hubbard Street Dance Chicago. The dance company had the purpose of building an audience and donor base with only six dancers. It performed donated works in country clubs and living rooms around the St. Louis area and encountered success quickly.
The Big Muddy Dance Company premiered its first full production in June 2011, at the Touhill Performing Arts Center's Lee Theater, as a 9-member company. The show was sold-out, and the company was honored with a standing ovation. Since that moment, the dance company has increased its membership to 15 dancers, and it has successfully developed a strong following. The Big Muddy Dance Company has a sound donor base to produce three full production runs each season. The company also founded an outreach program and a successful open class schedule.
The Big Muddy has been named “Best Local Dance Company” by Critic’s Choice and Readers’ Choice in Go! Magazine by St. Louis Post Dispatch (2013, 2014, 2016, and 2018). The company also appeared on St. Louis Magazine’s “A-List” in 2017 and 2019, and was voted by Riverfront Times as "Best Dance Company" in "Best of St. Louis 2015." The Big Muddy was presented in 2018-2019 at the Fashion Footwear Association of New York’s Gala at the Ziegfeld Theatre, NYC.
The Big Muddy Dance Company has major past and present collaborations with partner art organizations such as Bach Society of St. Louis, Variety the Children’s Charity, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Jazz St. Louis, and Shakespeare Festival St. Louis.
