Tango Cumparsita de Argentina Information
The tango "La cumparsita" was composed by Uruguayan musician Gerardo Matos Rodrguez in 1916, with lyrics by Pascual Contursi and Enrique Pedro Maroni. It is one of the most well-known and well-known tangos of all time. Roberto Firpo, the orchestra's director and pianist, incorporated elements of his tangos "La Gaucha Manuela" and "Curda completa" into Matos' carnival march ("La cumparsita"), resulting in "La cumparsita" as it is today known.
The tune was produced in early 1916 by an architecture student in Montevideo, Gerardo Hernán "Becho" Matos Rodrguez, the son of Montevideo's Moulin Rouge nightclub founder Emilio Matos, who was 18 at the time. Matos Rodrguez had his friend Manuel Barca display the music sheet to orchestra leader Roberto Firpo at La Giralda cafe on February 8, 1916. Firpo glanced at the music and immediately realized he could turn it into a tango.
Firpo recorded the song for Odeon Records in November 1916: Odeon release number 483. He employed two violinists, one bandoneon player (Juan Bautista "Bachicha" Deambrogio), and one flute player to join him as bandleader on piano at Max Glücksmann's studio in Buenos Aires.
