Sunset Blvd Information
Sunset Blvd is a musical that features music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and words and books by Don Black and Christopher Hampton. It is derived from a same-titled 1950 movie of the same name. Living in the past in her crumbling house on the legendary Los Angeles Boulevard, faded silent cinema period icon Norma Desmond drives the story. In young screenwriter Joe Gillis, she sees a chance to make her big screen comeback with romance and tragedy waiting to follow when he unintentionally crosses her path.
Originally opening in London in 1993, the musical has had multiple extended runs and large audiences. But because of its unusual operational expenses, it has been the target of many court cases and finally lost money. From September 2023, the Savoy Theatre hosted the third production revival for a sixteen-week restricted run.
Reimagining the work in a modern and minimalist staging directed by Jamie Lloyd and produced by Lloyd Webber Harrison Musicals, Nicole Scherzinger starred as Norma. SunSET BLVD: THE ALBUM is scheduled for release in October 2024 recorded live at the Savoy Theatre with Nicole Scherzinger and the rest of the West End ensemble. It was revealed on January 4, 2024 that the West End show will later that year move to Broadway.
