Steven Alexander Wright (December 6, 1955) is an American actor, stand-up comedian, film producer, and writer. He is from Cambridge, Massachusetts. He attended Middlesex Community College in Bedford, Massachusetts. He earned his associate's degree and continued his education at Emerson College and graduated from there in 1978. From 1979, Wright began to stand up comedy at the Comedy Connection in Boston.
Wright is known for his distinctly moppy voice as well as slow and deadpan delivery of ironic, nonsensical, and philosophical jokes. Not only jokes but nonsequiturs, paraprosdokians, anti-humor, and one-liners contrived situations are also his trademarks. His comedy genres are described as surreal humor, one-liners, word play, observational comedy, Musical comedy, and Anti-humor.
Wright ranked as the 15th Greatest Comedian of all time in 2017 by Rolling Stone among 50 Greatest Stand-up Comics. I Have a Pony was a 1985's comedy album by Wright that was released on Warner Bros. Records. He also got featured in many hit films such as Desperately Seeking Susan, Coffee, and Cigarettes, The Appointments of Dennis Jennings, Stars and Bars, So I Married an Axe Murderer, Natural Born Killers, Canadian Bacon, Babe: Pig in the City, and the list goes on.
