Neil deGrasse Tyson Information
Neil deGrasse Tyson (October 5, 1958) is an American astrophysicist, author, and science communicator. He was born in New York City. Tyson received his education from three prestigious institutions: Harvard, UT Austin, and Columbia. Throughout his career, Tyson has studied observational data of cosmology, stellar evolution, galactic astronomy, bulges, and star creation. He has worked in various capacities at the University of Maryland, Princeton University, the American Museum of Natural History, and the Hayden Planetarium.
Tyson contributed to Natural History magazine's "Universe" column monthly from 1995 to 2005; Astrophysics for People in a Hurry (2017) and Death by Black Hole (2007) are collections of his writings that he wrote at the time. He published monthly columns under "Merlin" in StarDate magazine during the same time frame, responding to reader questions about space and time.
Tyson joined the Moon, Mars, and Beyond Commission in 2004 and the Commission on the Future of the U.S. Aerospace Industry in 2001. He received the NASA Distinguished Public Service Medal that year as well. He hosted the PBS show NOVA ScienceNow from 2006 until 2011.
StarTalk, a late-night talk show hosted by Tyson on the National Geographic Channel since April 20, 2015, features Tyson conducting in-depth interviews with celebrities from the worlds of entertainment and science.
Together with Whatnot and Neil deGrasse Tyson, Tyson Presents: Space Odyssey incorporates educational materials about space and technology to provide players with a realistic simulation of developing a space-faring culture.
