National Theatre Live Information
National Theatre Live broadcasts live performances and productions to several cinemas and arts centers around the world. The director of the RNT is Nicholas Hytner, while the pilot season of the program started in June 2009. It began with the production of Phèdre, starring Helen Mirren. The production was screened live in 70 cinemas all over England. The second production was All’s Well That Ends Well, which was shown on 300 screens in total.
The majority of venues screen the productions live, but the time difference in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and the United States makes them show the productions a few days later. On October 14, 2010, Complicite’s Disappearing Number was broadcast live from the Theatre Royal, Plymouth. In February 2011, the Donmar Warehouse’s production of King Lear was broadcast live from Covent Garden. The broadcast of Macbeth starring Kenneth Branagh and Alex Kingston was live broadcasted in 2014, from the Manchester International Festival.
