Michael Che Campbell (May 19, 1983), an actor, writer, and stand-up comedian, was born in New York City. The most famous thing that Che has done is work on Saturday Night Live, the sketch comedy series that airs on NBC. He and Colin Jost were co-head writers from 2017 to 2022, and Che has been a co-anchor on Weekend Update since then. In 2018, the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards were co-hosted by Che and Jost.
Beginning in 2009, Che frequently performed multiple sets each night when performing stand-up comedy. On David Letterman's Late Show in 2012, Che made an appearance. Both Variety and Rolling Stone included Che in their 2013 lists of "10 Comics to Watch" and "The 50 Funniest People." She has worked for Saturday Night Live as a writer and was a correspondent for The Daily Show with Jon Stewart for a brief while. For Saturday Night Live's 40th season, he replaced Cecily Strong as co-host of Weekend Update with Colin Jost at the tail end of September 2014.
Che told his audience at a stand-up show on March 26, 2022, that he would leave the desk after this season, but he didn't say when or why. His Instagram post first denied his departure, but in an interview with Tony Dokoupil for CBS News Sunday Morning on May 15, 2022, he said he was unsure of his future with SN.
