Louis Masur Information
Professor of American Studies and History at Rutgers, Louis Masur, holds the Board of Governors Distinguished Professor title. He is a cultural historian who has written about many different issues and studied at the University at Buffalo and Princeton. His most recent book is The Sum of Our Dreams: A Concise History of America (2020). Author of Lincoln's Hundred Days: The Emancipation Proclamation and the War for the Union, Lincoln's Last Speech: Wartime Reconstruction & The Crisis of Reunion, and The Civil War: A Concise History, he is a Lincoln and Civil War expert.
Besides writing about the inaugural World Series (Autumn Glory) and a single snapshot (The Soiling of Old Glory), he has also written about a landmark album (Runaway Dream: Born to Run and Bruce Springsteen's American Vision) and the events of a whole year (1831: Year of Eclipse). Masur's writings have been featured in the likes of the New York Times, the Washington Post, CNN, and Slate. Harvard, City College of New York, Trinity College, and Rutgers University have all honored him with teaching awards, and he has been inducted into the American Antiquarian Society, the Society of American Historians, and the Massachusetts Historical Society. On behalf of One Day University, he regularly gives lectures.
