Their first performances were in 1971 at Venezuelan national events, and the following year Nelson Bautista joined the group. In their first two years, they were part of several festivals, including the Great Festival of Progressive Music alongside the New York Rock Ensemble and the First Song Festival of Cumaná, the world's first audiovisual pyro performance, in 1973. In addition, they started appearing on TV in shows like Renny Ottolina's Renny Presenta, De Fiesta Con Venevisión, and Feria de la Alegra, where they won a slew of honors, including the Guaicaipuro de Oro, the Mara de Oro, and the Meridiano de Oro. "Solo Otra Vez," their debut recording from 1972, was a critically and commercially successful release. Their second album, "3 Tristes Tigres," was released in 1974 and received widespread acclaim across Europe and Latin America. In 1975, they released the album Tres Tristes Tigres; in the same year, they released Los Mas Grandes Éxitos, their fourth studio album.
The group disbanded in 1978, and its members, Alfredo Cabrera, Humberto Becerra, and Marlene Arias, went on to create Los Tigres. The album "Los Tres Tristes Tigres y Marlene" was published in 2001 and features music by Los Tres Tristes Tigres, Los Tigres, and Marlene. Back together, the band is performing and giving lectures all over Venezuela.
