Laura Benanti Information
Laura Ilene Benanti (July 15, 1979) is an American actress and singer from New York City, New York. She is a German, Serbian, and Irish Heritage. Even as a child, Benanti was intensely interested in musical theatre and the music of Stephen Sondheim. Although her parents wouldn’t allow her to audition for professional theatre, Benanti appeared in several high school and community productions, including Follies (as Young Heidi), Evita (as Perón’s mistress), and Into the Woods (as Cinderella). In 1997, she graduated from Kinnelon High School.
Benanti worked in a Broadway revival of The Sound of Music as Liesl at 18. In 1999, she appeared in the Broadway revue Swing! and received a Tony nomination. In 2000, she performed opposite Donna Murphy in Leonard Bernstein-Betty Comden-Adolph Green musical Wonderful Town’s concert production.

She also worked in some top films such as Russian Broadway Shut Down 2014, She Loves Me 2016, Worth 2020, and a few more. In TV shows, she can be seen in Open Books 2010, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit 2011–14, and It Could Be Worse 2013.
Benanti won many Tony Awards and Outer Critics Circle Award, Drama Desk Award, and several nominations.
